Veterans Benefit Resource
Many thanks to Tidal Pool for the following:
Veterans Benefit Resource
The below web-sites provide information on Veterans benefits and how to file/ask for the benefits. Accordingly, there are many sites that explain how to obtain books, military/medical records, information and how to appeal a denied claim with the VA. The majority of this information is free and available for all veterans- the only catch is you have to ask for it as they won't tell you about a specific benefit unless you ask for it. You need to know what questions to ask so the right doors open for you -- and then be ready to have an advocate who is willing to work with and for you, stay in the process, and press for your rights and your best interests.

Yule Like Solstice
YULE LIKE SOLSTICE
In winter I get up at night
And dress by yellow candle light.
In summer, quite the other way.
I have to go to bed by day.
-Robert Louis Stevenson-
Solstice- either of the two times of the year when the sun is at its greatest distance from the celestial equator. The winter solstice (also referred to as Midwinter and Yule) occurs on 21 December.
An utterly astounding array of ancient cultures built their greatest architectures -- tombs, temples, cairns and sacred observatories -- so that they aligned with the solstices and equinoxes. Newgrange, is a beautiful megalithic site in Ireland. This huge circular stone structure is estimated to be 5,000 years old, older by centuries than Stonehenge, older than the Egyptian pyramids. It was built to receive a shaft of sunlight deep into its central chamber at dawn on winter solstice. Maeshowe, on the Orkney Islands north of Scotland, shares a similar trait. Hundreds of other megalithic structures throughout Europe are oriented to the solstices and the equinoxes. The blossoming field of archaeo-astronomy studies such sacred sites in the Americas, Asia, Indonesia, and the Middle East. Recent research into the medieval Great Zimbabwe in sub-Saharan Africa (also known as the "African Stonehenge") indicates a similar purpose. In North America, one of the most famous such sites is the Sun Dagger of Chaco Canyon, New Mexico, built a thousand years ago.
Many medieval Catholic churches were also built as solar observatories. The church, once again reinforcing the close ties between religious celebration and seasonal passages, needed astronomy to predict the date of Easter. And so observatories were built into cathedrals and churches throughout Europe. Typically, a small hole in the roof admitted a beam of sunlight, which would trace a path along the floor. The path, called the meridian line, was often marked by inlays and zodiacal motifs. The position at noon throughout the year, including the extremes of the solstices, was also carefully marked.
Neolithic peoples were the first farmers. Their lives were intimately tied to the seasons and the cycle of harvest. In modern times, when so few of us are involved in the production of our own food, we have lost that awareness of just how dependent we truly are on the abundance of mother earth. Midwinter day gives the least period of light followed by the greatest period of darkness. For those who watched the heavens in ancient times, it must have seemed as if the sun was standing still or diminishing entirely. Indeed, the word-solstice-means standing sun.. Many, many cultures the world over perform solstice ceremonies. At their root: an ancient fear that the failing light would never return unless humans intervened with anxious vigil or antic celebration. Virtually every culture has its own special celebration to encourage the light on this day, but a common theme of solstice celebrations, everywhere, is the burning of fires to rekindle the dwindling sun. Throughout northern Europe where winters are severe, the solstice fires were lit indoors.
The rebirth of the sun. The birth of the Son.
Christmas was transplanted onto winter solstice some 1,600 years ago, centuries before the English language emerged from its Germanic roots. Is that why we came to express these two ideas in words that sound so similar? The yule log in your fireplace and the coloured lights on your Christmas tree are your solstice fires. They come to you in a direct line from your neolithic ancestors attempting to rekindle the sun.
Stand in the sunlight at mid-day on 21 December, and face your shadow. This is the longest it can be all year. Consider the deeds of your life, the extent at which the shadow of your own influence has fallen on the earth. Upon whom has it fallen? How have you affected the world in which you live?
********************
For the first time ever, the 2007 Winter Solstice illumination of the passage and chamber at Newgrange was streamed live on the internet. The video is about about an hour long and well worth the time.

For those with shorter attention spans or more pressing issues, a far shorter video on New Grange and the solstice can be found here:

And finally, for those who wish to know the precise time their shadow is longest:

My Name is Lazer L.
For those few eyes that may find these words in a Paltalk blog, and don’t know of what I speak, Paltalk is an international voice and text chat program located on the web at www.Paltalk.com. My best analogy for Paltalk is 21st century HAM radio where you have the opportunity to get to know a very diverse group of people from every background imaginable. From dead wood to doctors, educated to obtuse and friendly to cruel, Paltalk is your anonymous avenue to a perpetual parade of anagrams analysis and assholiness (or is it assholier than thou?). We have shitheads, show offs, shut-ins and saints, we have Paltalk prophets, Paltalk millionaires, and Paltalk professors. You can be anything you like in chat.
I assume, like most compulsive behaviors, paltalk can be an escape from ordinary daily life. Being a “people watcher” I often find myself jonzin’ for my regular fix of these friends and foes I have grown to know and appreciate. At any moment of my choice, I can be whisked away to this perpetual pit of opinion, insight and outsight (so I am told). Transported to a land where I find Birthers, Truthers, Marxists, Fascists and Fart blossoms all defending their points of view. Where room wars, admin wars, and personal vendettas lure me into the underlying drama that keeps me chasing the dragon. God help me, I love it so.
I guess I’ll need to seek professional help to break this spell. A nice 12 step program where I might be able to de-program from this program would be in order, me thinks. I have taken the first step by admitting I have a problem, and like most addicts, I think that is enough for today. LOL I’ll work on it tomorrow. Meanwhile.. Wonder what’s going on in chat.
Well this is my sad story of descent into the subculture of the Paltalk text-tard and if you think I have divulged something in me that isn’t in most of us, you are an idiot and on permanent ignore for Gross Retardation.

From Wikipedia:
SS Edmund Fitzgerald (nicknamed "Mighty Fitz," "The Fitz," or "The Big Fitz") was an American Great Lakes freighter launched on June 8, 1958. At the time of its launching, it was one of the first boats to be at or near maximum "St Lawrence Seaway Size" which was 730 feet (220 m) long and 75 feet (23 m) wide. From its launching in 1958 until 1971 the Fitzgerald continued to be one of the largest boats on the Great Lakes.

Right to Choose
The problem with talking about a woman's right to "choose" is that accepting the language in your questions about it gives credence to the false premises buried in your deceptive and presumptive choice of terminology.
In any case, constitutional conservatives believe the issue of abortion should be handled by the several states and not by the federal government.
This has been carefully explained to you before; but if you ever forget again, you can just ask for a link to this blog post.

Midterms 2010
It is the midterms, the halftime of the Obama Presidency. It is the time when coaches take their teams to the locker room and make adjustments to their strategies. It is the time for the politicians to assess whether their ideas and beliefs are working in the real world, or if they need a little pragmatic adjustment. In my estimation, the crowd is stomping their feet and demanding some major adjustments.
The Left feels they have been sold a bill of goods because many of their positions on worker’s rights and social justice haven’t been addressed. The Right feels that the controlling party is over regulating the economy, growing the public sector and is obsessed on taxing the rich. And both sides seem to want to saddle the other with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Guess what? You’re all right. Unfortunately being right and getting everything you want are worlds apart.
The 111th Congress started out as a supermajority with basically unlimited control over the agenda and a President of the same party spurring them on to pass his plan. We have seen how the animosity and stubborn environment of contention has resulted in Legislation that most of the nation rejects. I suggest that a super majority feels empowered to roll over their counterparts because they can, whether it is wise or not. In my opinion, supermajorities are to be avoided because they try to violently upset the balance of systems that have evolved over time.
I believe the Founding Fathers in their zeal to create a form of Government that would withstand the test of time took examples from social and physical laws, as they understood them at the time, and tried to structure the government with these laws in mind. Create a system to encourage majority rule and minority rights, compromise over gridlock, and balance and stability in all facets of our Government. There are times that social issues and other external forces offset our balance and threaten our stability. When this happens, it is up to us to regain equilibrium in a way we design. Otherwise balance will find it’s own equilibrium (Usually with unintended consequences)
My sincere hope is that the midterms will result in a change in House leadership, a rearrangement of the Senate leadership, and a very loud, vocal public, demanding an atmosphere of working together to achieve, not everything you want, but everything you need for a reasonable amount of taxes. Division is a radical mismatch of our expectations and is a danger to our overall stability. There is too much we agree on. It is time for some team players to get us on the winning path again.

Reflections on the Celtic holiday of Samhain*
Happy New Year!
In the ancient Celtic mind, a day began not with midnight or at sunrise, but actully at sundown. Night precedes the light, and together they form a single unit of time. In a similar way, the Celtic year began not at the coming of midwinter or the new spring but with the end of the harvest time. Thus, Samhain (summer's end), celebrated on or near 31 October, marked not only the end of autumn and the onset of winter, but also the Celtic new year.
Because, Samhain marks the end of the old year and the beginning of the new, it meant a break in the flow of time. This break meant the "veil" separating our world from the otherworld was temporarily opened. The otherworld, being simply, the spiritual dimension of the physical universe. The belief in the immanence of the otherworld was important to the Celts, along with the possibilities of the average person inte acting with it. Immanence is a theological term, literally meaning "remaining within". It is used to suggest God's presence is within the world, as opposed to transcendant, which suggests God is far away. The Celtic idea of immanence meant the spiritual dimension was very close to the material.
Samhain was a time when fearsome beasts and monsters could walk the earth, but more than just ghosties and ghoulies could visit. To the Celt, and the modern day pagan, Samhain is a solemn and reverent holiday, filled with transformational "magic". It is the best night of the year to make contact with the spirits of loved ones who have passed to the otherworld-the ancestors from whom we received our life and our DNA.
In my household we set up a "dumb supper". A meal where friends and family eat in silence. An extra place is set for our loved ones on the other side. As we eat, we reflect on their lives, their love, and the wisdom they imparted to us.
Samhain shona daoibh, go léir!

VANCOUVER — It has been nearly a decade since three levels of government signed a landmark agreement designed to transform Vancouver's notorious Downtown Eastside, but the neighbourhood remains a vortex that sucks in junkies, the mentally ill and other desperate souls from across the country . . .

Living with Liberals in the United States of America
Why do liberals get so very upset about anyone who believes in "God"? I heard one liberal minded person say the other day that religion, dogma, should be completely done away with. And the sad thing about that statement was that so many liberals were cheering him on.
Now, my response to this statement is that one's belief in God is their own business. And the reason so many of us non-liberals and God believers get so upset with the liberal/progressives, is because those people really want God to be done away with. They want religion completely out of their way so that they can fulfill their liberal agendas.
What is the liberal agenda? Well, I have come to believe they actually want a world in which they can rule......... they want to be able to spread their ideologies freely and corrupt our youth into believing that anything and everything is ok to do as long as it does not hurt anyone else. But, here is the irrational clincher to their reasoning....... anyone who does not follow their belief system, their ideologies, doesn't have any right to disagree.
The liberals use the arguments of the crusades, all the liberal media attention on the Catholic church about pedophile priests (there have not been that many incidents of that occurring in the last 40-50 years and the number of priests who were accused of that is small. In fact, most cases of child molestation are by non-religious and in the USA, are family members.... they go mostly unreported, but it is the Catholic church who is taking the brunt of the media cruelty), and lastly here is the most prevalent argument liberals use...... There is no God. It is a fairy tale.... blah blah blah.
Well, I happen to believe in God, as do the majority of us citizens. But, if liberals were to have their way, such things as the sacrament of marriage between man and woman, the idea that aborting a fetus is ok would be a main stay, we would not be allowed to defend our homes or our lives with guns, they would do away with the constitution, claiming that it is archaic, and the USA will not survive until "all the old people are dead and buried."
Here are my opinions on the aforementioned:
1} Belief in God is faith. You either have it or you don't. You cannot prove God's existence, but in the same token, you cannot disprove God's existence. I guess you will have to wait until you die before you believe, if you don't believe now, and that is your choice......... kinda goes along with free will and our united states constitution.
2} Marriage is a religious term, a holy sacrament from God between a man and a woman. You can change the definition by going to urban dictionary, if that will make you happy. But don't you dare go trying to force our churches to accept man on man, woman on woman unions. And it should be a state decision whether or not to make those unions legal. If you believe in those unions, that is your right, but it should still be a state law that makes that decision. I personally don't think it is right, because it goes against God. But if you don't believe in God, why do you care anyway, one way or another about the word marriage?
3} Roe vs Wade is a precedent set by the US supreme court that simply states a woman's privacy issue with her physician. It is up to the states to say if abortion is allowed. So you do have the legal right to kill a baby, a human life in the womb, that should be protected by the mother. And no matter what you say, it is a human life at conception. Why liberals do you not know when it is a baby and feel the need to have that changed also? Is it perhaps that you know in your hearts that by aborting the baby you are killing a human life? You want the federal government to tell you when life begins, to make that determination for you, to ease your consciences?
4} The right to own guns and defend ourselves; criminals will always be able to purchase weapons whether you make it illegal or not. Yet, you don't want good honest people to own them for self-defense? What is the logic in that?
5} The USA constitution........ you want to do away with it completely because you aren't intelligent enough or have the backing of others to support your liberal ideologies and get it amended?
6} And the last argument that "old people are causing all of your idiotic liberal agenda propaganda problems........ Well, all i have to say to that is that someday you will be old too. From my own aging growth, I can tell you that your liberal ideologies will change over the years. And those of us with children, grandchildren, have helped in their mind growth and you cannot control them all the way that you think you can. So, good luck with wishing us all dead.

It Is Not About Economics (or is it?)
Human psychology is a product of evolution, right; because if the humans that created the 2010 "civilization" on planet earth did not evolve, then how all of this happen?
So what does evolution do?
Evolution stands at the finish line and it declares whatever species or dna cluster to get there first to be the winner. In other words, evolution is biology's Monday morning quarterback. Evolution does not plan ahead.
Because the definition of evolution and "survival" of the fittest is so fatalistic, there is no way humans can ever escape evolution. Nonetheless, humans have evolved to the point where they can exercise awareness of evolution and survival of the fittest and begin to make conscious decisions about where the human species is headed.
A relatively small number of humans on the planet are behaving in just the way they have been programmed by hundreds of thousands of successful evolution of the species. In pure biological terms, this is very successful, but in terms of overall happiness on the planet, it is a miserable failure.

MOONDOG: The Economy Will Improve by May 2011
The Economy Will Improve by May 2011

Saturday November Ninth Two Thousand Ten
Room
I’ve been asked to put my predictions on the economy and the reasons why I have come to these conclusions on this Blog.
Most know I believe the Democrat party to gain power in desperation destroyed a working economy. This is how and why the dems went to these lengths.
I believe George W. Bush is one of America’s most maligned presidents and this is why.
The democrats felt the George W. Bush was given the election in 2000 by the Supreme Court making him the first selected president.
http://webspace.webring.com/people/hs/smooth345_2000/gwb.html
G.W.B. inherited a mild recession and corrected this problem with small tax pre bate (a rebate before paying the tax). http://www.pbs.org/newshour/extra/features/july-dec01/tax_rebate.html
The balance of this tax plan called Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001 which was outed as The Tax Cut for The Rich by the Democrats.
The First major attack in this century on the United States soil known as 9/11 happened on G.W.B's watch. He was blamed for acting poorly and by some knowing and or taking part in the destruction of this attack. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZOu65YIXfA
Democrats felt they were coned into voting for The Iraq War Resolution. This resolution allowed America’s first preemptive war. http://uspolitics.about.com/od/wariniraq/a/jt_resolution.htm
This war started in 2003 http://www.australianpolitics.com/news/2003/03/03-03-19.shtml
This was the start of the Democrats attack on the economy of the United States.
In 2004 Bush economies still weaken by the attack of September 11, 2001 having only housing asn’t limping along. The Bush’s economy was in a housing boom with little sign of weakening other sectors were weak with no sign of improvement. More American families owned homes than at any other time in our history. Housing prices had also hit new highs, which prompted President Bush to ask for controls on the loan companies guaranteed by the federal government Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. I believed then and now controls were needed. Barney Frank and other members of the congressional Banking committee made it sound that the President was trying to make it harder for the poor to buy homes. I believe that president and his advisers had it right controls were needed. Congress refused to offer a Governing Agency bill for these government guaranteed lenders. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4A0RuXhnQA
The Democrats believed the above and other slanders were enough to make G.W.B. the first Republican one term president since Hoover. They ran John Kerry who lost his election against the weakened George W. Bush. Democrats claimed the election was stolen by Diebold the electronic voting machine maker and started an investigation. This investigation found some
reason to ask for improvement in the machines but no reason for a revote. http://www.commondreams.org/headlines03/0828-08.htm
In August 2005 Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast causing a great deal of havoc and loose of property. The hurricane also caused a spike in gasoline prices nationwide. The havoc of this storm and the increase in oil price were again blamed on President Bush. http://www.katrina.noaa.gov/
Retail gas chart http://www.gasbuddy.com/gb_retail_price_chart.aspx
The Bush housing boom was starting to weaken due to poor ob numbers and fuel costs. The foreclosure rates were increasing with help of the Bush’s harsh press and power hungry loyal opposition the Democrats spent the time between the 2004 election and the 2006 election weakening President Bush‘s ratings and were able to make many Americans believe that this was the worst economy since 1929.
Foreclosure chart http://bettyjung.wordpress.com/2008/12/06/historial-foreclosure-rates-1979-2007/
Bush’s approval polls slide and the 2006 election is in question. Bad press wreaking housing and high fuel prices all become issues in the 2006 election.
Approval polls http://www.realclearpolitics.com/polls/archive/?poll_id=19
The 2006 election was a victory in both the house and the senate. Democrats had a slime majority in the senate and controlled the house. http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2006/pages/results/bop/
The 2007 Congress lead by Nancy Pelosi promoted the end the war in Iraq impeach Bush for war crimes and control fuel cost during the elections. The impeachment was first taken off the table, a fight over the Iraq war an increase in troops and spending was needed and the congress felt otherwise. Harry Reid told America the war was lost, Hilary Clinton told us the government was lying about progress in Iraq. The Dow industrial average was nearing an all time high which it hit in Oct of 2007. Even with the high foreclosure rate and increasing fuel costs unemployment was still low in December 2007 the unemployment rate was only 5%.

If the economy was good could they retake the White House? What could they do to weaken the economy housing? Remember the loan companies that were government guaranteed, Fannie and Freddie in April of 2007 they told congress they were going to make subprime mortgages. Congress could have stopped them but congress knew this was the lynch pin to their victory in
2008. If they could time Fannie and Freddie’s failure in late in 2008 the President would be blamed and his party defeated badly in the election. ttp://www.reuters.com/article/idUSN1738401820070417
The congress went to work telling big oil that they either lower prices or they will be investigated and or taxed. The congress never acted to reduce oil prices in anyway one of their promises. Oil hit an all time high in July of 2008 145 dollars a barrel. I believe the Democratic
controlled house and senate knew what they were doing killing the economy to win an election.
http://www.nyse.tv/crude-oil-price-history.htm
The NBER called the start of the recession in December 2007, I ask why? Unemployment was low 5%, GDP was up from previous quarters then why were we in recession?
I believe the NBER isn’t non partisan as they state. I believe the recession started in March 2009 after two consecutive quarters of declining GDP and increasing unemployment.
The NBER claims the recession ended in July 2009 if this is true why is unemployment increasing in November 2010?
I believe the recession should end before March 2011 and the recover should be underway by April or May 2011.
